THE STEADFAST - Vodka Thyme Lemonade || Cocktail Series
Did you notice the heat this week? It went from cold to hot in a matter of days. We had those precious few days when the weather was perfect and you didn't sweat by just sitting still. We don't have that anymore. And, hey, maybe you love it. While mowing my lawn in growing heat of the early morning the other day, my neighbor waves to me as says "It's going to be 90 today!" I make small talk about how terrible that was going to be and her response was "No, this is what I live for. This sweltering heat is my favorite." I guess we all like different things.
But, to me, this heat really only means one thing to me -
And lemonade is what we have. The recipe is pretty standard (mixed with vodka) but I wanted to also add something special. You see, I only had one plant in my garden that braved the winter, my thyme. That little herb didn't even seem to notice that it was the only one hanging out in the sub zero temperature. No matter what the weather threw at it, it would just keep hanging on in its corner. I wish I had that steadfast strength sometimes.
So maybe I nicknamed this drink the Steadfast. Because it shows that good things will brave the winter.
Hey! I'm starting a newsletter. It's going to come out every Friday and will host that week's cocktail plus some musings I have about photography, food/spirits and lifestyle. Sign up below so you don't miss out!
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 3-5 sprigs of thyme
Combine in saucepan and heat until sugar is dissolved, cool.
- 4 oz Thyme Lemonade
- 2 oz vodka
- 2 oz water/seltzer (I used seltzer)
Combine all and stir together, serve over ice with a lemon twist or thyme sprig.
The great part about this recipe is that it can be made non-alcoholic so you can serve a mock cocktail to your kids or other people in your life who don't want/can't have boozy version. Just add more water or seltzer!
